The only thing that will take you back to how it felt.

Because memory deserves more than highlights.

How I film a wedding

On the wedding day, my only job is to watch. I don’t direct, I don’t pose anyone, I don’t ask for a moment to happen again. I’m the one person in the room whose entire attention is on reading the day as it unfolds, so I can be where the real moments are before they happen.

The film is built in the edit. Real audio carries it: the vows, the speeches, the voices of the people who were there. The music and the pacing are chosen for your wedding, not pulled from a template. The reception is cut like the high point of the night, because it usually is.

Two weddings I film come out feeling completely different, because the story is shaped by what actually happened on each day, not by a formula applied to all of them.

“The cinematography is so beautiful — everyone we show our film to says they’ve never seen anything like it.”

Watch the Films

The best way to understand this approach is to experience it. Each film is built differently, but they all share the same intention, to preserve not just what the day looked like, but how it felt.

How I work

1. Before the wedding

Understanding your day, your priorities, and the moments that matter most.

2. During the wedding

A calm, observant approach that allows the day to unfold naturally.

3. After the wedding

Carefully shaping the film through editing, sound, and narrative.

— Fiorela & Steven, Charlotte, North Carolina
“From the very beginning, Xavier was professional, responsive, and genuinely great to work with. He created an environment where everything felt natural, never forced or staged, and captured the real essence of the day with remarkable attention to detail.”

A personal approach to storytelling

I’m Xavier Magaña, a documentary wedding filmmaker based in Cancún. Before weddings, I spent over a decade in commercial production for international brands, and earned a Master’s in Digital Photography from the School of Visual Arts in New York. That background is where the discipline comes from: in commercial work there is no second take, and that standard is what I bring to a wedding day.

I film a limited number of weddings each year, by choice. This kind of work takes full attention, and full attention doesn’t scale.

Let's get in touch

I work with couples planning destination weddings who value authentic storytelling and films built around real moments.

If you’re getting married anywhere in the world and want a wedding film that feels honest and intentional, I’d love to hear about your plans.
