Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres: A Wedding Filmmaker's Field Notes

Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres is a large all-inclusive resort run by Palladium Hotel Group on the Costa Mujeres coast, north of Cancún. It now markets itself as Grand Palladium Select Costa Mujeres Resort & Spa; it is the same property, and both names are in use. It is in this catalog because it is one of the largest wedding resorts on that stretch of coast, with a convention center published for up to 950 guests.

I have not filmed a wedding at Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres yet. This page is a filmmaker's field notes: verified public information, plus how I would approach filming here.

What Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres is

Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres is an all-inclusive resort in Costa Mujeres, in the mainland part of the Isla Mujeres municipality, about 31 to 33 kilometers by road from Cancún International Airport. Palladium lists three hotels at this location: Grand Palladium Select Costa Mujeres, the Family Selection at Grand Palladium Select Costa Mujeres, and TRS Coral Hotel, which is adults-only and sits immediately next door.

Palladium publishes its wedding spaces here only in general terms: a chapel, ceremonies on the beach, a convention center whose largest room holds up to 950 guests, and a theater for up to 500 at gala dinners. The Wyndham Registry Collection, which markets Palladium's resorts, lists a banquet facility for up to 440 guests. Independent wedding directories name more specific spaces, but their lists and capacities disagree with each other and with the resort, so they are not reproduced here. Ask your coordinator for the current named spaces and their capacities for your date.

Which venue model is this

Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres is an example of the first model in the three types of wedding venues in Mexico: a large all-inclusive where the resort's wedding department runs the program, outside vendors require approval and usually a fee, and the timeline belongs to the property's coordinators. For what that means in practice, including how the fee conversation actually goes, see resort vendors vs. outside vendors.

How I would film a wedding here

I have not filmed a wedding at Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres yet. What follows is verified public information about the property, plus how I would approach filming here, based on my experience at comparable venues in the region.

At Grand Palladium Colonial, a Palladium all-inclusive in the Riviera Maya where I filmed Diana and Zach's wedding, the outside vendor fee did not apply to me, because I was booked inside the couple's room reservation rather than brought in as a day vendor. That arrangement belonged to that wedding and that property. The resort here does not publish an outside vendor policy, and I do not know whether it handles vendor access the same way, so it is the first thing I would ask rather than assume in either direction.

Six kilometers south on the same coast is Ocean Events, where I filmed Fiorela and Steven's wedding. Its chapel is open on the side facing the Caribbean, and in the afternoon the light comes in from the side of the chapel.

This coast faces east, so at the end of the day the sun goes down inland, behind the buildings, rather than into the sea. On a beach ceremony here I would expect the water to catch the last of the light instead of the sun setting over it, and I would set the ceremony time with that in mind rather than with a picture of a sunset over the water.

With a convention center for up to 950 guests, a separate family section and an adults-only hotel next door, I would treat the distance between the ceremony, the reception and the guests' rooms as a planning question to settle with the coordinator before the day, along with which spaces each hotel's guests are able to use.

What to ask Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres before you sign

  1. The outside vendor fee in writing for your vendor count, and whether booking your filmmaker inside your room block changes it.
  2. Which ceremony space you are assigned, the chapel or the beach, and its current capacity, since the resort does not publish named spaces.
  3. The seated dinner capacity of your reception space. Published figures run from 440 to 950 depending on the source and the setup.
  4. If your guests are split between Grand Palladium, the Family Selection and TRS Coral, which spaces and events each booking can access.
  5. Drone permission and the cutoff time for amplified music, neither of which the resort publishes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have you filmed a wedding at Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres?

Not yet. I have filmed at Grand Palladium Colonial, a Palladium all-inclusive in the Riviera Maya, and that complete film is public. I have also filmed at Ocean Events, six kilometers down the same coast. The operating reality of filming inside a resort's wedding program, which is what shapes the work, is one I know first-hand.

Is Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres the same as Grand Palladium Select Costa Mujeres?

Yes. The resort now markets itself as Grand Palladium Select Costa Mujeres Resort & Spa, and the earlier name, Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres Resort & Spa, is still widely used by planners and booking sites. Palladium also runs the Family Selection section and TRS Coral, which is adults-only, at the same location.

Does Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres charge an outside vendor fee?

The resort does not publish one. A fee is the norm at large all-inclusives, so request the exact figure in writing for your vendor count before you sign, and ask whether booking your filmmaker inside your room block changes it.

Does the sun set over the water at Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres?

No. The beach faces east, toward the Caribbean and Isla Mujeres, so the sun rises over the water and sets inland, behind the resort. The sea takes the last of the light rather than the sun setting into it. If a sunset over the water is what you are picturing, that is the Pacific side of Mexico, which I write about on the Los Cabos page.

Venue information on this page was last verified in October 2026 against the venue's official materials and public sources. Fees, policies, and capacities change without notice. Always confirm directly with the venue or your planner in writing before signing.
